Arts at Abingdon
Abingdon has an
exceptional music program. During our services,
our talented organist and Music Director,
Alisa Bohon,
has led the children's, girls’, hand bell, and adult choirs in a
demanding and awe-inspiring program of classical choral music by
Handel, Bach, Berger, Byrd, and many others.
Arts at Abingdon is another key part of our music
program. This highly-visible program provide everyone in
our community with a series of free or low-cost concerts by local, national,
and internationally renowned musical artists. The concerts are
held in the beautiful and acoustically outstanding Abingdon Church
and boast performers from all over the world, as well as musicians
from our own Gloucester County. The committee of nine works
year-round on fundraising, programming, and advertising, in order to
have a successful program to present to the public. The series relies solely on
financial contributions from individuals in the community for each
fiscal concert calendar. Arts at Abingdon sponsors world-class concert series which have
included the American Boy Choir, Choir of the
Abbey School (Tewkesbury England), Gordon Stewart (English
organist), Miami String Quartet, St. Thomas
Choir of Boys and Men (NY), Ensemble Amachord, the Rastrelli
Quartet, Joann Faletta, Triple Helix, members of the Viginia
Symphony, and Dr. Jennifer Hayghe
(concert pianist), and
Stephen Bennett (An internationally renown Gloucester
musician).
