Everyone at Abingdon walked through our doors for the first time at some point, here is what you can expect when you visit.
Sunday mornings are a time to worship God, connect with others, and grow in faith. Whether you have been part of a church for years or have never attended a service before, you are welcome here.
Where do I go
There are two buildings on campus - the historic church is directly in front of you as you enter the parking area - it is within a brick wall. When you step inside, you’re entering a space where people have prayed and worshipped for over 275 years.
The building to the left as the enter the parking lot is our Parish House. This is where we gather for refreshments, classes, meetings, and other non-worship gatherings. It is also where you’ll find the nursery and our bathrooms.
What to Expect
Our Sunday worship includes prayer, Scripture readings, a sermon, and Holy Communion. You do not need to know when to stand or what to say. Everything is printed in a bulletin, and you can simply follow along. You are free to participate as much or as little as you feel comfortable. Our worship lasts about an hour.
Dress is casual to dressy—come as you are. There are no assigned seats- so sit where you are comfortable. (Pro tip - sit about 1/2 way between the main doors and the altar. This way you can see what the people in the front are doing and easily have someone behind you.)
All ages are welcome in worship. Younger ones at the 10:30 might want something more comfortable for kids. Children’s chapel takes place during the first portion of worship. They leave during first hymn and rejoin during the peace - just after the sermon. Really little kiddos might prefer the nursery. It’s in the Parish House and opens at 9:30. For your first visit, plan to arrive around 10 to meet our fabulous nursery staff and let them know a little about your kid.
Worship Times
We offer two Sunday services at 8:00 AM and 10:30 AM. During the summer, we gather for one service at 9:30 AM.
The 8:00 AM service is quiet and spoken.
The 10:30 AM service includes music and singing.
Both services center on Scripture, prayer, and Holy Communion.
After Worship
The priest will usually be at the door as people leave worship. This is a good time to ask any question or to introduce yourself.
After the 8 AM service, we gather at the Welcome Table for refreshments and conversation. It is a relaxed time to meet others and ask questions.
We also offer Growing in Faith, where we explore the Christian life through classes and discussion. You do not need to be a member to attend.
After Sunday
We try to offer visitors information about our church. If you like you can be added to our email list and get updates. We won’t sell your email address or show up to your place without you inviting us. Getting to know a church should feel like making a friend - not getting a sales pitch.
A Place for You
We believe church should be a place of grace, honesty, and hope. Wherever you are on your spiritual journey, you are invited to join us this Sunday.
We look forward to meeting you.
“We first attended Abingdon in the fall of 2025. Our kids love it and we are finding way to grow in faith. Everyone here is so friendly.”
